Thanks for the input, John. I agree with you in a lot of ways. I’m not suggesting that children, regardless of gender, should not be generally protected until they are able to protect themselves in the ways that all adults must (and I’m not suggesting adults can’t still benefit from a support system). I am suggesting that there is a meaningful difference between “I need to protect my child in general because my child is not fully mature” and “I need to take an active role in opposing my daughter’s sexuality because she is female”, and I don’t think we should try to get away with disguising the second as the first.
